A 62-year-old woman is suing Los Angeles Police, alleging that officers roughed her up after she pulled into the parking lot of a church in Koreatown.
There was no immediate word from the LAPD, but a TV station reported that the department has launched a probe of the officers involved.
The incident took place on the morning of April 14, Ok Jin Jun’s attorney, Antonio Kizzie, told CBS2 News.
Surveillance video captured Jun’s arrest. Her car is seen pulling into the church parking lot, and coming in behind her was an LAPD SUV, Kizzie showed CBS2.
Jun, Kizzie told the station, had honked her horn several times to get the officers to move their SUV because it was blocking the parking lot entrance.
Jun, who speaks very little English, was confronted by the officers when she got out of her car, Kizzie said. They asked her for her registration and then began talking to her but Jun had a hard time understanding what they were saying.
Jun’s son, David Jun, said his mother called 911 to try to get a Korean- language interpreter involved. The footage indicates that when Jun bent down to make that call, the officers pulled her up and pushed her against her car, then forced her back to the ground and handcuffed her.
Jun was then taken to a hospital and then into custody, according to her son. David Jun says his mother is traumatized by the encounter.
The woman can be seen with a large red mark on the side of her face, near an eye. The officers involved in the incident are being investigated for their use of force, according to CBS2.
